Along with that, Rapunzel makes a wondrous impression on the villagers, bringing whimsy and excitement to their already enjoyable festival, winning their hearts instantly. She also learns of the Lost Princess, though she doesn't recognize it's her in the mural of the royal family, and before she has time to ponder further, she engages in more fun-filled activities with the villagers and Eugene. During the day, their romantic feelings for each other begin to grow stronger and slowly start to emerge. At dusk, Eugene and Rapunzel row out onto the lake to watch the lanterns rise into the sky. In the original Tangled film, Maximus is depicted with brown eyes, but in the movie poster for Tangled Ever After, he is depicted with blue eyes. This is an error on the animators' part but was fixed in time for the film as seen in the preview shown on the Disney official YouTube account. Maximus (as a stylized carousel horse figurine) appeared in the princess/fairy-themed unit of Tokyo Disneyland's Happiness is Here Parade, being ridden by Rapunzel. King Edmund revealed himself as Eugene's father and explained to him their family legacy. Eugene was reluctant and unsure at first, refusing to believe Edmund was really his father or the fact he was the long-lost Prince of the Dark Kingdom, but gradually began to accept the truth as he learned about his heritage and linage. Edmund believed Eugene's return to his kingdom was a sign that he was meant to destroy the Moonstone, finally bringing an end to the harm its brought their family. Although Eugene originally refused, he eventually decided to aid his father in fear he would lose Rapunzel to the Moonstone after learning about his mother's death. Fortunately, he came to realize his error and realized his true destiny was to free Edmund from the burden carried out by their ancestors. However, although Eugene managed to convince King Edmund of Rapunzel's destiny and allowed them passage to the Moonstone chambers, Eugene still had a rough relationship with his father and parted ways to when he left to return to Corona.

[4] Attempting to make Maximus feel like a "fresh" character, the filmmakers researched several historical horses from both animated and live-action films to ensure that the character would be unique and different enough from his predecessors. Greno explained that "Maximus ... could have easily slipped into the category of, 'Oh, I've seen that before.'" [4] To prevent this, the filmmakers referenced "a board with photos of all the different animated horses that had been done". The two get married in " Tangled Ever After". In " No Time Like the Past", it is revealed that Maximus had been chasing Eugene and Lance around since they were teenagers. This would likely explain Maximus' extreme, almost ludicrous, dedication to catching them, although mainly Eugene.
