The Inspiration: Mannequin Army

Prada’s influence on the British high street this year has been quite phenomenal. To think that they have made the lowly banana one of the seasons must have prints shows just how incredible the trickle down ‘prada effect’ has been this season. The multi-coloured stripe is now a wardrobe staple and brands are scrambling to inject a dose of bright and bold into their collections. I do wonder if this is the most copied collection I have ever seen?

In terms of Visual Merchandising the Prada effect is also influencing some of the biggest high street brands with what I like to call  the ‘mannequin army.’ This week alone I saw H&M, Topshop and Next all employing this technique in their store entrances. Has anyone seen this technique being used anywhere else? I think at least 6 mannequins seems to be the key although even more = even more impact.  So here I leave you with a little ‘Prada’ inspiration from the New York and LA stores.

Mulberry: The icing on the cake

To say I am obessed with Mulberry would be an understatment. I just love everything that the brand stands for. The fact they manufacture, produce and design in the UK is really just the icing on the cake. Of which I have notice Mulberry events always seem to involve a lot of cake.  My kind of brand!!! The visual merchandising is just gorgeous, I am definitly seeing a trend for fresh flowers at press days aranged in various size vases. The aim is to create lots of Volume (also seen at Whistles press day)

These cute boxes were for slices of cake which you could customise yourself!

A little inspiration goes a long way

Things have went a little quiet on the window front simply because I am crazy busy at the moment. All that is set to change and I have got some very exciting features and LOTS of window shopping trips planned this summer. London next week and Paris at the end of June. Im very excited for Paris simply because the experience of walking around and shooting is always so relaxing, the architecture is just stunning. The French really do take every last detail into consideration.

Ive also just found out that one of my favourite brands (its between Mulberry and Matthew Williamson) are launching a book to celebrate 40 years of business! Its just stunning and shows lots of backstage imagery. I will leave you with  a link to the book – http://www.mulberry.com/#/40thbirthday/thebook

I am not clever enough to embed the video onto my blog but If you click the link you will find a video which plays through every page of the book. Just stunning!

Oh and one other thing, I had an interesting conversation with a friend about charity shops and how difficult there job is making ‘random’ stock look great. Well here is a rail I saw in my local topshop which I thought looked great and just shows you can still achieve something visual pleasing with the last of your stock!  I really am loving what Topshop is doing with their Visual Merchandising at the moment!

ps. sorry for the dodgy pics, I had to use my iphone (normal service will shortly be resumed)
