Protein bars are a convenient way to get your daily dose of protein without having to take the time to cook and can be a great addition to your diet if you're trying to lose weight. The centre here is slightly drier than those I’ve tried before, but it’s also not as ‘tough’ as previous bars – more fudge-y, like soft nougat.

The caramel layer is scarcely there and it didn’t deliver the hint of salt I was hoping for – and which would have really elevated the flavour.

The texture of Barebells is bang on, I agree, but yes, the caramel cashew bars are a very ‘subtle’ flavour – I have to be in the mood. The core is exactly like soft fudge, with a sweet cocoa flavour and topped with a sticky layer of caramel. The peanut pieces on the top are lovely, slightly crunchy and well covered by the creamy chocolate coating.
