About this deal

To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. A greenhouse had fallen down after 20 odd years in one part of the garden so when we cleared it away and found we had a new and empty part of the garden I decided to make my own Paradise Garden based upon the influences I had seen across the Islamic world. Monty Don’s Herefordshire garden, Longmeadow, is well known to garden enthusiasts around the UK as the setting of BBC’s Gardener’s World, and its yearly cycles are well documented on the broadcaster’s social media feeds. Yet from early January the signs are there with snowdrops and aconites appearing and the catkins on the hazels yellow with pollen. The book starts with an introduction to Longmeadow, with Monty describing how it was a complete blank canvas of farmyard and fields when they first moved there and how he has tried to create a garden that works with nature and sits happily in the landscape. The two-acre space is divided into several different areas, including the Cottage Garden, the riot of colour that is the Jewel Garden, the Islamic-inspired Paradise Garden, and the Vegetable Garden. Longmeadow gets flooded almost every year so the ground is not wanting for much more during most of the year. He has written a weekly gardening column for the Daily Mail since 2004, and published over 20 books, including the bestsellers Down to Earth, Nigel: My Family and Other Dogs, and My Garden World. His previous books include The Complete Gardener, the Sunday Times bestsellers Nigel and My Garden World, The Jewel Garden with Sarah Don, and Japanese Gardens with Derry Moore, which was shortlisted for the Edward Stanford Travel Writing Awards.

Although viewers of Gardeners’ World see parts of the garden every week, it still felt that the book was giving me an insight into a private space. Remarkables REMARKABLES Intriguing, stunning, or otherwise remarkable books These include fine editions, foreign publications that are exceptional for their interest or production, special editions and some first-rate books from very small publishers. His passion for gardening and the natural world are evident and he has the ability to make ordinary, daily events in the garden seem magical. It will inspire you to achieve a balanced, healthy garden of your own, that's spilling with produce and full colour all year round. The Cottage garden spent the first 20 years of its existence as a dedicated vegetable garden, conveniently near the kitchen and supplying the family with all our fresh produce.

Come down the travelators, exit Sainsbury's, turn right and follow the pedestrianised walkway to Crown Walk and turn right - and Coles will be right in front of you. I have liked Monty Don since he wrote a column in the Guardian years and years ago… several of his books have caught my eye, including a recipe book! He has written a weekly gardening column for the Daily Mail since 2004, and published over 20 books, including the bestsellers Down to Earth , Nigel: My Family and Other Dogs , and My Garden World . We do so as much as cooks and lovers of good food as gardeners, always striving for good taste and health over appearance or size. I live in Vancouver, WA and I CANNOT get away without watering (nearly) every night during the hot season.
